That's how science works. If you throw enough money at it, it all gets figured out.

Movie Trailer: Furry Vengence
Yeah, I have no idea what people are talking about when they talk about a leftist agenda streaming out of the entertainment industry. Complaints like that are all a part of redneck, mouth-breathing Republican fantasy.

Even forgiving the insufferable agenda behind this flick, this looks painfully stupid. Is Brendan Fraser involved in some bet where he's trying to see how crappy his products can be before they stop letting him make movies?

And for you leftist fist-shakers who will whine that I am judging this film sight unseen - yes, I haven't seen this movie. No, I don't have to see it to know what the score is. I will eventually sit through this nonsense, but I am willing to bet the farm it is a horrible pile of crap.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)
Should I see it?
No.

Click on the link below and watch the trailer and then come back. No seriously, go on.

Welcome back.

The whole production from inception to execution can be summed up in one element: Abominable Snowmen.

There is a point where film makers seem they’re just putting crap in to see how much an audience can take. Why not throw in some pirates and a giant bunny that spits lava? No, how about a fifty foot Chinese baby with a flaming skull for a head that can shoot nuclear warheads from its fingertips? That’ll be cool! This film actually sparks an interesting conflict. Is it reasonable for an audience member to expect anything from a movie like this? Is it fair to expect the filmmakers to actually give a crap? Content-free films like this are the cultural equivalent of a small kid who spins around in circles until they’re dizzy. There’s no greater goal involved in seeing this film other than achieving a few fleeting moments of being so distracted. And just like getting intentionally dizzy, it ends with the possibility of someone puking.

Gods and Monsters (1998)
Should I see it?
Yes.

Gods and Monsters

Aging film director James Whale (Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man) portrayed by Ian McKellan quietly languishes following a stroke. As his life comes to a close, he is haunted by flashbacks. The homosexual Whale strikes up a strange friendship with his muscled gardener (Brendan Fraser).

The film is a patient character study and gives McKellen amble space to work. He offers a detailed performance and manages to bring Whale to life. Fraser, who is primarily known for this catalog of dimwitted action flicks (The Mummy series, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D) reminds us he has talent behind all of that Hollywood glare. In light of McKellen's all consuming charisma on screen, even Fraser tends to meld into the background somewhat, but he does quite well just the same.

Some may be uncomfortable with the homosexual elements of the film. In my opinion, these concerns are unnecessary. This isn't a gay pride parade put to celluloid. This is a great example on how homosexuality should be presented in film. McKellen's character is gay, but the film doesn't cheer him on and treat him with kid gloves. He's gay but he's human first and it is the humanity that McKellen presents that makes this film so facinating.

Movie Trailer: Inkheart
Could be good...then again it does have Brendan Fraser so that's a knock against it. He hasn't picked a good project in years.

What would happen if you could make a book come alive by simply read it aloud? Well, I know of at least one of my friends who would scramble to find a collection of Penthouse Forum Letters. I'd just read the book this movie is based on. I'd like to see what happens when you read a book out loud about making books come alive by reading them out loud. That would have to do some weird "don't cross the streams", avoid seeing yourself in Back to the Future destruction of the universe thing.

Screenwriter: David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots)
Director: Iain Softley (K-Pax)
Actors: Brendan Fraser (Gods and Monsters), Eliza Bennett (Nanny McPhee), Helen Mirren (The Cook, the Thief, His Cook and Her Lover), Andy Serkis (13 Going on 30) and Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code)

The Mummy Returns (2001)
Should I see it?
Nope.

This half baked follow up to The Mummy is a complete waste of time. Having nothing to say after the initial hit film, this flick languishes and finally stumbles into a brainless string of boring chase scenes. There is no cause to see this useless sequel.

The Mummy (1999)
Should I see it?
Yes.

Big, stupid and fun, this snickering revisiting of the mummy legend is a fun flick. Brendan Fraser is perfectly cast as a hero in this less than serious action film. The special effects are good but nothing too special. Clever dialog, a fast pace and the introduction of Rachel Weiss and John Hannah give this piece life.

Movie Trailer: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
You have to give them one thing, it looks pretty. The original The Mummy was smartly tongue-in-cheek and played its cinematic fluffiness well. Brendan Fraser returns as adventurer Rick O'Connell (one of the lousier heroic names of recent memory) in this third in the series. The sequel The Mummy Returns was a huge mess and failed to catch the charm of the first movie while also failing to be entertaining in its own right. The third in the series, The Scorpion King, was just embarrassing. Most franchises would have been deep-sixed after such an effort and relegated to straight-to-DVD productions with casts populated by nameless actors. This attempt to reignite the franchise has the mixed blessing of losing the misdirection of director Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing) only to have him replaced with Rob Cohen, a director who is quite adept at creating utterly thoughtless flash n' crash spectacles (xXx, Stealth, The Fast and the Furious).

Look for this to be pleasing to the eyes and quick paced but missing any real wit or intelligence. See the trailer below.
