Movie Trailer: Legend of the Guardians
I am not familiar with the books, so this just looks ridiculous to me. I am sure if I knew the books I would probably have a different opinion. In my world, life is too short for cartoon owls wearing helmets. But perhaps that's just me.

Movie Trailer: The Last Station
Hey, it has Helen Mirren in it. Even if it is an annoying, melodramatic wad of self-indulgence, I still say, hey, it's got Helen Mirren in it.

Movie Trailer: State of Play
Hey Russ, Eddie Vedder wants his hairdo back. Hey, I loved the early nineties as much as the next guy but c'mon...

Looks like it will be good. Very traditional trailer, lots darkness, rain punctuated with pseudo-gunshots and white screens used as transition markers. It all has a Ridley Scott vibe. Written by Matthew Michael Carnahan, the script should be good but probably since he works well with broad, sweeping plots like this one.

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (2007)
Should I see it?
No.

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets

A nearly unwatchable follow up to the less than impressive original National Treasure. This film suffers from not having a real purpose for being made. The original film ended on a conclusive note. Reviving the characters for another adventure seems unnecessary other than for the hopes of making a few more bucks. The original was irrational enough, this outing involving the secrets of John Wilkes Booth's diary that shows the hero, historian Ben Gates' (Nicholas Cage) great grandfather was a co-conspirator in Abraham Lincoln's assassination. The plot then weaves a path utilizing historical references, treasures and locations at every turn.

Ultimately this is a hollow movie with a bunch of plot contrivances and historical pseudo-facts thrown in to make it look like there's something going on.

Movie Trailer: Inkheart
Could be good...then again it does have Brendan Fraser so that's a knock against it. He hasn't picked a good project in years.

What would happen if you could make a book come alive by simply read it aloud? Well, I know of at least one of my friends who would scramble to find a collection of Penthouse Forum Letters. I'd just read the book this movie is based on. I'd like to see what happens when you read a book out loud about making books come alive by reading them out loud. That would have to do some weird "don't cross the streams", avoid seeing yourself in Back to the Future destruction of the universe thing.

Screenwriter: David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots)
Director: Iain Softley (K-Pax)
Actors: Brendan Fraser (Gods and Monsters), Eliza Bennett (Nanny McPhee), Helen Mirren (The Cook, the Thief, His Cook and Her Lover), Andy Serkis (13 Going on 30) and Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code)
