Have you actually seen the movie or is your judgment based on the trailer?
In principle (yeah, I know it's unlikely these days) the protagonist could recognize at the last just how worthless that path is. In fact, the trailer looks like a total set up for that outcome.
If you check out the trailers for "10" for example you don't get the impression that the character finally finds himself at the end, instead of just going ahead and indulging his fantasies.
Judgments based off my impressions on what I see with the advertisement. If I'm wrong on my assertions, which has happened but is not a common occurrence, I will be happy to publish a complete and descriptive retraction.
The trailer is the production putting its best foot forward in order to draw an audience. This particular trailer focuses on the salacious aspects of the story and leaves little else to find attractive. What is presented is detestable. If the production is victim of a terribly misleading marketing campaign then they should pull their ads if possible and reboot their efforts.
I'm actually with K on this one; it looks to me like one of those "In spite of peer pressure, the kid turns out to be better grounded and more moral than his friends and family" movies ... like Superbad or maybe American Pie.
That's becoming a standard formula, we need a short, quick term to pigeon-hole those movies with.
It really doesn't look very funny, though. It's always a shame to see William H. Macy in something that doesn't look promising.
I saw Bart Got A Room, and I can honestly say:
It was terrific.
It played at Tribeca last year, and it's nothing like American Pie, or anything in that genre. Although it does have some teen aspects that you'd find in such a movie, it executes the jokes better, and it's more of a smart comedy.
The trailer doesn't do "Bart" any justice.
This is a sweet, funny movie. I laughed and even teared up. I was surprised to see this "review" on the internet while searching for movie updates. I don't necessarily agree with trailers being reviewed. Sometimes a totally unrelated party cuts the trailer.
Go see it. Made my day!
M.K.
