I enjoyed Contact quite a bit, except for the stereotypical "Religious people represent a threat to science and progress" theme that it relied on about 2/3 of the way through. I find that most of the religious people I know ... the ones who take religion seriously enough that it might influence their understanding of any message we ever received from another planet ... are much more like the Mathew McCounaghey (sp?) character. That is, they're thoughtful, upbeat and realistic.
You know, it's sort of a bad sign when Matthew McConawhatever plays the character who represents the movie's soul.
And, by the way, Scott, Merry Christmas to you and yours.
