Movie Watching Tip: Trailer Rush
When you watch a movie trailer it is common to have a little editing trick at the end I call a "trailer rush". To be honest, there may be a real term for this but I'm completely unaware of it. This is at the final moments of a trailer, the final act, where the editing explodes into a flurry of images the soundtrack erupts into a rising, screeching all leading to a crescendo and then a moment of silence where the title is shown.

Watch the ends of the trailers below for an example:

Apocalyto
Ol' Mel's trailer actually has a double rush. One leads to the moment with the panther (using a trailer trick normally used in horror movies (see below)) and the second sets up the title of the movie. Granted the final rush isn't as dramatic as is seen in many other ads.

Red Dragon
Following the rush we are presented with the actual selling point of the marketing - the return of Hannibal Lector. He's given a sinister line prior to the title to cement this point in the minds of the audience.

1408
In horror movies trailer rushes are also used to set up a creepy moment often involving the approach to a dark spot (doorway, hole, room) or an innocent looking person/creature that suddenly turns into horror - usually someone gets grabbed and/or dragged away.

This is done because it gives the illusion of excitement and conflict. It is also nearly impossible to pulls your eyes away. The sudden stop is anti-climatic and, in theory, leave the audience wanting more. The sudden silence also gives the title of the film a tone of gravity.
