Movie Trailer: W
I can't think of anything more boring and tedious. Giving ol' W. a shot in the shins before leaving office, Oliver Stone has broken away from fawning over criminal dictator Fidel Castro long enough to make this completely unneeded biography of George W. Bush. Presidential politics is fascinating stuff, cheap gossip is not. Is it possible Stone isn't serving up just another Bush bash? Sure. Given that his trailer focuses on the weaker parts of Bush's character, it seems very unlikely however. The impressive cast couldn't look more ridiculous. I hope they're going to have name tags on the whole time so we know who they're trying to portray.

Sure, some may see making a film ragging on a sitting President in a time of war as being at best in bad taste. and at worst near treasonous. You have to admit, no matter how much of a hit piece this is it is a thousand times better than making a movie about Bill Clinton. First off, there would be the issue of trying to get around an NC-17 Rating. In addition, what do you call it? "You Put What Where?"

Check out the teaser trailer for Stone's very important and very serious movie below.

there was, of course, Primary Colors

...my summary of our X-rated ex-President's tenure in office has long been: a progression from "I didn't inhale" to "she didn't swallow."

In bad taste, indeed. And sadly dead on. And just what the country deserved.

Good call on Primary Colors. I stand corrected on that front.

You can take the President out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park...

I am so disappointed. Bush should be wearing a monkey suit and Cheney should have fangs dripping blood. This trailer reminds me of nothing so much as the trailers for Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, etc., etc.

Looks like it's going to be fairly accurate, actually. The only actor that looks out of place is Scott Glenn--he's much too cut to be the kind of mushy-looking Rumsfeld.

But you're right about it being unnecessary. People aren't going to be swayed to like/dislike W. any more than they already are by this flick, and I can't imagine that it's going to be viewed in 80 years as any kind of real historical reflection on the man. There's plenty of real news and video for that.

Greg, I honestly don't see the point of the movie, even if I were expecting a fair depiction. Making a film about such a controversial figure before his time is even up is strange to say the least. As if Stone feels his work is going to somehow be a capstone to the administration? I don't know how to read it other than being a hit job. Then again, to paraphrase you, I'm so right-wing it can make you scream, so I'm a little biased here.

With the characterizations, most of these people are still in office and still working in public life everyday. I'm hoping they look more their parts than what I'm seeing here. This looks as bad as what Stone tried to pull of with Anthony Hopkins portraying Nixon.

If its fairly accurate it will be interesting to see how they handle his conversion.

I can't believe this movie is being made.

With or without this movie, Bush's place in history has been set. From the economy, to the war, to the environemnt, to our civil rights, Bush has been, without a doubt, the worst president of my lifetime.

He currently sports the lowest approval rating, and highest disapproval rating of an sitting president in history.

How anyone could be a Bush fan is beyond me.

Greg,

The environment? Are you kidding? The environment? Seriously? Have you been outside lately? Things are fine.

Of course his place in history isn't set. Generally, history is written AFTER the fact. What's set is his political opposition's opinion of him.

So Bush is worse than Jimmy Carter or LBJ. Can you explain how they're better. If you don't want to go down that road can you at least tell me who is the best President of your lifetime?

"How anyone could be a Bush fan is beyond me." Let's ask one. I'm sure some of the commenters are Bush-backers. Anyone who likes Bush, please explain why. Thanks

...if "history" equals "journalistic ephemera" then gregory's mythopoeic spiel is dead-on.

There are 2 movies called “W The Movie” and Stone’s is actually the 2nd one. The first, apparently, has been in the works since 2005 and I discovered the trailer for it on youtube.
The ‘other W’ is a lot different and it looks very psychedelic.

Anon, only if we redefine "psychedelic" to mean "freaking stupid"
