"oblivious care"? You were just checking to see if we were reading, I assume.
I liked Gattaca from the first, despite my difficulty deciding whether I was about to watch a movie about an early video game or a prison riot. I wouldn't call it original--it very carefully observes the conventions of the genre. It does so very well, though, and with a good balance of deviation within the norms.
Pacing, I agree, was its chief flaw--it just wanted to spend too long dwelling on its lushness. And letting Ethan Hawke and Jude Law bask in themselves. Even so, it was very good.
