Who doesn’t love a wandering movie following the vile adventures of a bunch of junkies?

This is a bitter film wallowing in the ugliness of humanity. Yes, it offers a very effective look at the issue of addiction, but it does so through the lens of stylized coolness that cheapens the impact. The film barely summons the strength to condemn the characters save the worst of them, played by Robert Carlyle.

Granted, Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire) is at the helm so this a well constructed film. Of course, you will have to suffer through amoral portrayals of drug use, death, full frontal nudity, and stark violence.

This film wants to be smart and cool. It’s not that, it’s just a sick yarn that offers little for the audience except clever editing and titillation.

A friend of mine loved this movie. Me? Not so much. Watch the trailer and see if this simple movie about a kid who finds a million English pounds looks like something you'd enjoy.

Here's a clue, when my friend and I disagree about movies, it simply means she's wrong and won't admit it.

This is getting great buzz, but I'm still a tad skeptical. Danny Boyle is a talented filmmaker but he has a huge problem with his final acts. Sunshine, 28 Days Later, Trainspotting, Millions all stumble in their final acts, all end on unsatisfying final notes. If he ever fixes his problems with conclusions he will make a masterpiece one of these days. Maybe this is it?

Danny Boyle's zombie movie may be the best horror film since The Exorcist. Well, at least the first half of the film is that good.

As a bone fide zombie movie fan, I have to recommend this great reworking of the genre.
