Carnival of Cinema: Episode 83 - The Man with the Golden Blog
Welcome to this week's edition of the Carnival of Cinema. Every week we present the best cinema-related posts, submitted from around the globe.

Special thanks to Joe of
INTERMISSION AT WORK for handling hosting duties last week. Joe, you did a fantastic job.

Batman, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Hellboy and on and on and on...its superheroes all the time these days at the cinema.

Starting us out this week Alex Villalba of
TODAY'S SHENANIGANS gives a defense of taking superheroes (and the movies that carry their names) seriously.
We should take them seriously, after all, the superheroes today are little more than a reconstruction of the Pantheon of Greek demi-gods and heroes.

This week the big news is this guy:

The Dark Knight
has finally come to theaters and its been wall to wall coverage of the late Heath Ledger's rendition of The Joker. With all of the marketing and hype, it still comes down to one thing...

Is it worth sitting in front of for over two hours?
First to let us know if all of this Dark Knight is just a pile guano is The Absolute Jay. To find out the absolute truth, head over to THE CRITICAL CRITICS to see what he has to say.

Next up,
The Reviewer has seen the film and gives a well written opinion on his site THE REVIEWER.

Manny the Movie Guy likewise has his unique take on the film and shares his opinion over at his site MANNY THE MOVIE GUY.

Manny says in his review "One can smell malevolence coming out of the scr
een" I have to use that instead of blaming it on the dog. "Whoa! Man, what is that smell?" "Oh that? That's malevolence. Don't worry, it'll pass."

Putting a cap on the whole Batman thing is Nigel Beale of NIGEL BEALE NOTA BENE BOOK gives an opinion of the film and of critic David Denby's panning of the flick.

The big deal last week was this guy:

We have a trio of reviewers for Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

The first reviewer is CHAOSGONE. Chaosgone has seen the film and compares it to the original Hellboy.

Second in line, Alex Villalba returns with a look at the big red guy. For more on Guillermo del Toro's latest head over to TODAY'S SHENANIGANS.

Is the demonic hero living up to the successful first film? How should I know? I haven't seen the thing. Go ask Sean Kelly, he's seen it and has a review over at SEAN KELLY ON MOVIES.

Moving away from the cigar lovin' demon, let's take a look at how the animated robot is doing.

WALL-E opened to good box office and gushing reviews. Is it actually worthy of all of the love its received from the critics? Matthew Needleman takes a look at the Pixar film over at his site CREATING LIFELONG LEARNERS.

Next, we have a duo of reviews on the film from this lady:

Geez, looks like someone needs a sandwich and a cup of yogurt. Hey Angie, having a low percentage of body fat is a good thing - that doesn't mean you need to try for 0%. Eat a plate of pasta lady.

Alexius of
MOVIE MANIA starts us out with a look at Bag o' Bones Angie's latest effort.

Kenton of MOVIE REVIEWS BY PO seconds this with another look at the hyper-stylized assassin flick.

We'll come back to the bevy of reviews we have this week in a little while. Let's turn our attention to what else we have in the Carnival's cinematic grab bag.

This week Dr. Deb shares information on social anxiety and cites the film Lars and the Real Girl as an example of what it looks like. For more, check out her site DR. DEB SERANI.

Shaula Evans wants to know what you think. Over at her site YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY she says "Our readers are compiling a list of great road trip movies and we'd love to know what your favourites are." Well...what are you waiting for? Go tell her.

Have you seen the Eagle Eye movie poster? Can't remember? That's probably because its so forgettable. (Either that or you thought you were looking at the poster for Enemy of the State). Either way, Missy from OBSERVATIONS FROM MISSY'S WINDOW has a bit to say about this poster and she is amazed at the effects a simple poster can have.

I say enough of the Shia LaBeouf characters. Who needs yet another simpering half-man thespian? Replace him now with a real actor...

Dolph Lungren.

Dolph Lungren? That slab of meat in a crewcut?

Yeah, that Dolph Lungen. It seems Furious of INVOLUNTARY FURY would think this is a good idea. Go check out a defense of the aforementioned slab of meat in a crewcut by clicking here.

Don't like Dolph?

Then you probably love indie flicks filled with aimless, emotionally confused characters? The Wackness is your thing. To learn more about this current indie darling, click on over to SEAN KELLY ON MOVIES.

For those of you who like stinking cinematic bombs...

Mike Myers' The Love Guru may be out of theaters already but you can still catch it over at THE CRITICAL CRITICS.

For more awful cinema look to what's cooking over at KABOOM REVIEW. This week, Mike Blitz presents the wholly unneeded DOA: Dead or Alive. This movie's so corporate its sold in a Styrofoam box with a side of fries and a drink.

Love life? Feel good? We can fix that.

Go see The Tracey Fragments. For more on this morose film visit SIZZLING POPCORN and read Jean Brunet's summary.

The final set of posts this week comes from Gracchi. Over at WESTMINSTER WISDOM the Carnival's brainy regular offers opinions of both Wonderful Winnipeg and Letter from an Unknown Woman.

…and CUT!…and PRINT!

Thanks to everyone for their submissions! The Carnival of Cinema is ongoing with submissions being taken through each Wednesday and posting every Friday.

Next week the Carnival is on the road again. This time its stopping off at RIDING WITH RICKEY.
