Should I see it?
Nope.
I am very lenient when it comes to low budget independent flicks. I understand the pain, struggle and trouble that comes with trying to piece together a small film without support. These self propelled filmmakers are the lifeblood of the industry and deserve more credit than they usually get. These films come with a price. As a viewer you need to be patient with low quality sound, lighting, and yes, even acting (particularly the supporting roles). This film is lacking in all those areas. The main actors do well with the script. They aren't the film's problem, the script is the issue. The screenplay is wanting in a number of areas. It seems the screenwriter couldn't decide if he wanted to be quirky or serious. Now, it can certainly be both but not in this case. This film is a series of drawn out scenes of people making it through their mundane lives. There's nothing wrong with this but the film is also short on humor and doesn't offer deep drama. It muddles its way along without a driving force pushing the plot forward. This leads to lethargy. A firmer nemesis, or more clearly defined central conflict would have infused some much needed life into the film.I wanted to enjoy this film. I have a soft spot for independent film. I am always going to bat for them and admit I ignore things that I wouldn't allow from better financed films. It pains me to say, this one just doesn't get off the ground.

When did you view the film? I read a great review from Film Arcade. It is also receiving an award for excellence in Directing 2009 from Alan J. Bailey at the Action On Film Festical in Pasadena at the end of this month. Dhttp://www.aoffest.com/2009-abailey-award.html Alan has over 30 years as a studio executive from Paramount. I am confused...Did you see the final cut by the director?
I watched the film in late February/early March of 2008. The preview copy I received appeared to be the most recent cut. I can't say if there has been any cuts since my viewing.
If they recut and reworked areas of the film to compensate for the script issues, fantastic. I don't see how they would have overcome the problems in the script since thy were rudimentary issues, but more power to them.
ok....you must know Michael O'Connor personally?? The film has only been screened privately in california and once at the New York Staten Island Film Festival. What do you think of the clips on this site... www,michaelwaynejames.com
A new question came in from the "FRC" group. How did you receive a preview copy? Who did you receive it from?
Couldn't tell you. That e-mail string is long gone.
Your email string?? The film was never uploaded in its entirety, so maybe you are confused on which film it is? What did you see?
Yes, e-mail string, the e-mails between the person, who ultimately forwarded me a copy of the film, and myself. I don't have them and I can't tell you who the other party was. Even if I could, I wouldn't do it in the comment section - wouldn't do it privately for that matter, since I don't know who you are and my conversations are far from being your concern.
I can't speak to any disorganization within the production and its marketing efforts. What I can tell you is that I was approached, via e-mail, to review the film. I said yes and a demo copy was mailed to me on DVD. I watched the film and posted my thoughts. The film in question had the same actors that are in the clips, the opening credits had the title Finding Red Cloud as did the DVD itself. End of story.
